This 1968 Guild T-50 Cordoba “Slim” is a wonderfully characterful example of Guild’s late-1960s electric archtops: a fully hollow, non-cutaway guitar with a remarkably slim body and a single neck-position DeArmond single-coil pickup.
Finished in a rich sunburst with bound body edges, floating rosewood bridge, Guild tailpiece, and the oversized black pickguard that defines so much of the model’s visual personality, the T-50 has the presence of a traditional jazz box without the bulk of a full-depth archtop.
The real attraction here is the pickup. The vintage DeArmond single coil has a wonderfully direct response: warm and woody through the middle, but with far more snap and definition than you might expect from a neck-position archtop pickup. Played clean, it has excellent clarity and a slightly percussive attack; push an amp a little harder and the guitar develops the gritty, woody edge that works beautifully for blues, roots music, rockabilly, early rock and roll, and jazz. It’s far more appealing than a P90.
There is something especially appealing about the simplicity of a guitar like this. One pickup, one volume, one tone, a hollow body, and very little standing between your hands and the amplifier.
