Larrivée SD-44 Slope Shoulder Dreadnough (25.5 Scale Length) 12 Fret

$2,699.00

Manufactured and hand-finished in Oxnard, California, the Larrivée SD-44 is an unusual take on the dreadnought: a deep-bodied, slope-shoulder 12-fret design that combines vintage proportions with Larrivée’s characteristically clear and balanced voice.

The 12-fret neck joint places the bridge farther into the lower bout than on a conventional 14-fret dreadnought, giving the guitar a particularly responsive feel with excellent sustain and a broad, powerful low end. At the same time, it retains clear, bell-like highs and enough definition that individual notes remain distinct even under a fairly aggressive right hand.

With a 25.5" scale, 1 3/4" nut width, and 2 1/4" saddle spacing, the SD-44 is exceptionally comfortable for fingerstyle playing, but this is by no means a delicate fingerstyle-only guitar. It responds beautifully to a flatpick as well, with considerable headroom and a strong, cutting fundamental. To me, it has some of the feel of an early Ditson-style dreadnought, with the responsiveness people often associate with 12-fret guitars, but without sacrificing the authority of a full-scale instrument.

This SD-44 features a solid Sitka spruce top with solid mahogany back and sides, scalloped hybrid bracing, a mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, maple binding, high-density bone nut and saddle, open-back 18:1 tuners, and Larrivée’s gloss Legacy Series finish.

Includes a hardshell case and the manufacturer’s limited lifetime warranty.
