Manufactured and hand-finished in Oxnard, California, this Larrivée L-44 features Jean Larrivée’s signature L body shape, a proprietary design that sits somewhere between a dreadnought and a jumbo. It offers much of the power and low-end authority of a larger-bodied guitar, but with a more balanced, articulate response across the entire range.
A solid Sitka spruce top is paired with solid mahogany back and sides, giving the guitar a clear, immediate voice with crisp highs, excellent sustain, and a strong fundamental. Individual notes remain remarkably well defined, even within dense chords, with the kind of clarion presence that makes the L body especially versatile for both fingerstyle and flatpicking.
The L-44 has become one of our favorite repeat visitors in the shop. Whenever Larrivée has one available, we tend to snag it when we don’t already have one on order; it is simply one of those guitars that consistently impresses us every time one comes through the door.
The mahogany adds warmth and directness, while the L body keeps the response open, balanced, and highly articulate. It is a substantial, powerful guitar without becoming boomy or indistinct, and a particularly good example of what Larrivée does so well.
Legacy Series appointments include scalloped hybrid bracing, a mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge, maple binding, high-density bone nut and saddle, and a gloss finish.
